About

Getting Inside

  • The approach to the building is step-free and level.
  • Frick Chemistry Laboratory has 9 entrances, all entrances provide step-free level access.
    There are 2 entrances with automatic doors. 1 is at the front of the building on Scholar Way and the other is at the rear of the building off Stadium Way.
  • Some entrances are signed as being accessible and have been detailed in this guide.
  • The accessible entrance gives direct access to level A.
    Doors at this entrance are automatic.
  • All entrances provide step-free level access to level A.
    Doors on each side entrance are manual.

Getting Around

  • It is possible to bypass all stairways once inside by using the elevators meaning there is step-free level access throughout the building.
  • There are some areas which have a carpeted surface and some that have a shiny finish.
  • There are resting areas throughout the building with a range of seating types including chairs with and without armrests, armchairs and sofas.
  • Some wayfinding signage is provided along circulation routes and all rooms are signed with tactile and Braille markings.

Restrooms and Changing Facilities Available

  • There are 10+ restrooms with adaptations.
  • Restrooms with adaptations are located on levels B, A, 1, 2 and 3.
  • The transfer space within the restrooms with adaptations varies between left hand transfer and right hand transfer.
  • Step-free male and female restrooms are located on levels B and A.
  • Parent and baby changing facilities are located on levels A and 3.

Entrance (Front Accessible Entrance)

  • This entrance is located at the front of the building to the left of the main doors.
  • This entrance gives access to level A of the building.
  • There is step-free level access at the entrance.
  • There is a canopy or recess which provides weather protection at the entrance.
  • There is a key fob/card reader at a height of 3ft 5in (104cm).
  • There is a single automatic door at this entrance.
  • The door opens towards you.
  • There is a push plate/sensor at a height of 3ft 1in (94cm).
  • The width of the opening is 3ft 6in (107cm).

Elevator (North PE1)

  • The elevator is located on the right as you enter the building.
  • The floors which are accessible by this elevator are levels B, A, 1, 2 and 3.

  • The external elevator control buttons have a low color contrast.
  • The external elevator controls are at a height that can be easily reached.
