About AccessAble and Princeton’s Facilities Organization launch new Detailed Access Guides
Princeton Facilities Organization is the first US university to work with AccessAble to create guides for its campus.
The Princeton Facilities Organization worked with AccessAble to create Detailed Access Guides to their buildings and facilities, including parking lots, teaching spaces, academic buildings, lecture halls, and athletics facilities.
More than 200 University buildings were exhaustively surveyed by AccessAble’s team. Over two months, they measured doorways, ramp gradients, stair heights, walking distances and restroom features and dimensions.
They recorded details on lighting, flooring and color contrast and more. They took hundreds of high-quality, 360-degree photos so people with disabilities can see how a space can work for them.
Dr Gregory Burke, Founder and Executive Chair of AccessAble, said:
"We have long believed that education can be just as transformative for people with disabilities as it is for everyone; perhaps even more so because it encourages people to look beyond “disability” and see the person. So, we’re delighted to announce our partnership with Princeton University! Princeton is the first university we’ve worked with in the United States. It has set a benchmark for accessibility information in America, and we hope you love looking at it and perhaps consider it among your options if you’re choosing a university."
Mike Barnes, Director of Campus Accessibility at Princeton University, said:
“Princeton Facilities is committed to stewarding a welcoming, accessible campus. The Princeton Detailed Access Guides empower those in our campus community with information to plan and access buildings based on their abilities.”
